Familiar, yet intrinsically mysterious. A sibilant start and finish, with a quick stop and a wide open middle. Redolent of marijuana and other bundles of contraband but also of tea in foil packages, and with the salty marine air of appurtenances in watertight lockers. Echoes of brisk motion, of money, of water, with a faint hint of rapid cutting. Delightfully mysterious origins, appearing to manifest from the thick air of thieves in the late 18th century. It has retained even to the present day an overtone of its louche origins.
